I didn’t set out to become a dog trainer. Somehow, I just kept finding my way back to dogs — how they think, how they communicate, and what they’re really capable of when things are clear.
Upshot Kennels & Training came from that. Years of wanting to understand dogs on a deeper level and help them actually succeed in the real world. I use balanced training because it works — not just in a controlled setting, but in everyday life, with real people and real distractions.

What it’s like to work with me.
I have a young Border Collie–Shepherd mix, and her herding instincts were extremely intense and difficult to manage. I was constantly bruised and honestly felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. My vet recommended Chantel, and I’m so grateful they did.
I also have some anxiety around dogs and dog parks after being attacked when I was younger, so finding the right trainer was really important to me. Chantel was understanding, knowledgeable, and incredibly effective. Within just one one-hour session, we saw a noticeable improvement in our dog’s behaviour.
Now, two months later, our puppy is growing into a well-mannered, happy dog. She’s still a puppy, of course, but the progress has been amazing. We definitely plan to continue training with Upshot Kennels.

"I brought my dog Diesel to Chantel a little over a month ago, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the very beginning, Chantel was confident and reassuring, saying she had no problem helping Diesel with her habits and she absolutely delivered. Diesel struggled with anxiety, aggression, reactivity, and leash pulling. I wasn’t able to bring her around other dogs without her reacting, and walks were always stressful.
